KMT and Kolomna Factory signed a contract for supply of single-swing doors for locomotives
KMT and Kolomna Factory signed a contract for supply of 21 sets of passenger locomotive doors by the end of this year. One such set comprises: 2 right-hand side entrance doors, 2 left-hand side entrance doors, 2 driver's cab doors.
In the manufacturing of these new locomotive doors, special emphasis is made on fire safety. All materials used in the manufacturing of the doors do not emit substances dangerous for human helath in case of a fire.
The materials used in the manufacturing of the driver's cabin doors are non-combustible or low-combustible besides:
- the manufacturing technology ensures at least a 30-minute fire retardation in case of a fire in the engine compartment by using a non-combustible filler;
- a special fireproof coating of a thermal intumescent fireproof material preventing penetration of combustion products towards the driver's cabin is applied to the door leaf surface and along the doorframe on the vestibule side;
- the window opening is provided with a multiple glass pane of two fireproof multilayer panes, the window opening gastightness being ensured by using special fireproof sealants;
- the cab doors are provided with fireproof hinges.
The doors will be supplied as a finished assembly consisting of a door unit (doorframe, leaf, and lock mechanism), which facilitates their installaiton on the car body.

By the end of the year, KMT will send 783 sets of new single-swing doors for passenger cars to Tver Railcar Factory
KMT has started supply of new single-swing doors for passenger cars made by Tver Railcar Factory. By the end of 2007, supply of 783 car sets of the doors is planned.
The doors will be supplied for passenger cars of Models 61-4179, 61-4194, 61-4174 designed for running speeds of up to 160
km/h. Compared to previous models, the new Model 4179 single-swing doors by KMT have a better design and lower weight.
For better sealing of the new doors, a double-barrier system of packings is used where some rubber packing elements are
installed on the door leaf, and others, on the fixed part, i.e. doorframe. The doors have one-cell multiple panes
improving their heat and noise insulation performances. Multiple panes with special features may be installed, such as
armored panes, toned panes, or light-reflecting panes.
The swing door design became more processible and repairable. Now, installaiton of car doors became less labor-consuming.

KMT starts manufacturing new doors and steps for Tver passenger cars
KMT starts full-scale production of automatic external doors and swivel steps for passenger cars by Tver Railcar Factory. The modules will be installed in passengers cars of Models 61-4440 and 61-4447 designed for running speeds of up to 200 km/h.
The sliding doors of Model 255.00.00.000, the full scale manufacturing of which KMT is going to start are much more
convenient than traditional swing doors that need vestibule space for opening. When operated at high speeds, the new
door modules withstand intense aerodynamic shocks occurring when meeting another trainor at the entrance to a tunnel.
By the end of 2007, KMT will manufacture 200 car sets of new doors and steps.
The new door design offers maximum safety due to:
- automatic interlock responding when the train starts;
- lock and "secret gadget" (buried latch) for safe locking of the doors and protection against unauthorized opening;
- safety precautions preventing jamming of passengers and irrelevant objects ("handicap in the opening");
- self-diagnosis system ensuring fault monitoring and transmission of the essential door status parameters to the car control diagnostic system;
- emergency opening system.
A system of packings and special kinematics of the automatic external doors ensure 100% sealing of the door opening.
Due to this, the matters of noise insulation in the vestibule platforms and comfortable stay of passengers are solved
in principle.
The new step design of Model 280/281.00.000 enables comfortable boarding from high and low platforms and from the ground
level, is safely fixable in limit positions, prevents icing and soiling of its rungs, and improves the car's appearance.
